Blog Bling

If you can't see the bling, re-save my blog to your favorites. It will then show up. What? I'm not on your favorites? What you are waiting for? An invite?

Pssst. Can you hear me? I don't want The Man to know this. But I bought a new blog bauble for myself yesterday. Oh wait, he already knows. He helped me pick it out. So why I am whispering? I don't know. I'm alone in the house. Kind of weird. It's so quiet. I'm not used to that. Maybe that's why I'm whispering. My kids are at my parent's house for the day and night. Woohoo. So now, I get to clean out the basement again. Notice I said AGAIN. Yeah, good times. I hate keeping stuff. Once we are done with stuff, off to goodwill it goes or to some unsuspecting recipient like my neighbor T-Luh who will find a Little Tikes Rocking Horse on her front porch when she gets home. Her husband has no idea that horsey is moving in from down the street. That's the way we roll around here. And I mean we roll. As in we roll our unused junk from one house to another. Witness the desk in my daughter's room that was given to us by one of my neighbors. LRRH loves it. Free and functional. Works for me. What does all this have to do with my new bloggy bauble? Not one thing. I just wanted to talk to ya.

Did you notice it yet? My new bling? No? Okay, I'll tell you. Look at the browser tab on this page. Notice the curly cue up there? It's from the dotted "i" in my header title "This is the Life". Cara from Your blogicon custom made it for me. And lucky for you, while I was driving home from the half-a-tank drop off of my kids at my parents house just so I could get some peace and quiet some projects done, I was thinking that it would be fun to adorn a couple of bloggy friends with some new bling. Just like mine. Don't you love it? Your custom blogicon will look cool on your browser. And when your fans add you to their favorites, your blog will, ya know, BLING.

Do you want your own custom blogicon?

If you do, leave me a comment and tell me what kind of gas guzzler you drive. That's more interesting than "Hi, I'm Betty blogger and I want bling. Enter me in your contest." Plus, as I've said before, I'm nosey like that. (Did I tell you I hate mini-vans? Won't be caught dead driving one. Well, I can't be caught dead driving one because I would be, well, dead. I drive a $75- and- rising a tank SUV. )That's all ya gotta do. Just say "Hi Debbie, I drive an SUV or minivan or car or bicycle or in my case sometimes, a broom." No linking back. No wasting a post about Debbie's 430something post giveaway on your blog (437 to be exact). Simple. And I will have Little Red Riding Hood do a live random drawing of TWO of your names at the end of the week. Polls close at midnight Eastern time, July 26, 2008. That sounds so official doesn't it.

I really have no idea what I'm doing. I just wanted to bless TWO bloggy friends with their own custom blogicons as a way of saying thanks. You all think I'm funny. And, you keep coming back. And, I really appreciate that, because I'm a little insecure about this blogging thing sometimes. And, you all have really encouraged me along the way. Oh, wait, now I know why I was whispering, I didn't tell The Man about the blog bling giveaway. Oh honey, it's only $20. I'll pay for it with Hunka Hunka's (my son) birthday money that's soon to arrive in the mail for only me to see. Ever.

A couple of you have mentioned that you can't see my blogicon. Go to your web browser where you would type in a URL, and there should be a curly cue just before my blogspot URL. If you use Internet Explorer it will show up on the browser tab instead of the blogger logo right next to the title "This is the Life."

I guess I'm first. Hi, I'm Nicol and I drive a mint green mini-van! Yikes! And I hate it! Cost me over 70 bucks yesterday to fill it up! I wish I drove something else, but considering the fact that I run a daycare, I need something that fits a bunch of kids.

I dream of the day that I can drive a classy car, red I think! Soon, I keep telling myself soon!

Lauren W said...

Man I wish I lived in a neighborhood so open to stuff-swapping! Anyway... I drive a honda civic coupe that gets about 34 miles to the gallon and costs about $40 to fill up. Jealous yet? Ah well, I'm sure once I have kids I will need to trade it for something, umm... practical. ANYWAY, as much as I love being a part of contests, I already have a blog icon. I just wanted to show off.

Skeller said...

Hi Debbie :-)
I can't see your bling :-( (I'm using Safari browser; I don't know if that matters or not??). When I'm on a different computer I'll try a different browser.

I think I may have one of the most gas guzzling vehicles... $150+ each time we fill our 4wd truck's tank. ugh. That's why we mostly just leave it parked. That's why our boat hasn't seen any action in recent times. sad sad sad.

Stupid gas prices.

I love your bling! I drive a dark blue 2002 Dodge Caravan. I Like my van, its' nice and roomy!

I am a sucker for this kind of stuff.

We currently (hanging my head in shame) have a minivan. It is the car I drive the majority of the time. We also have a new civic that hubs drives for his long haul to work each morning.

Hi Debbie!
I always love coming over to your blog so even though I don't know if I can justify entering your contest, (even though I would LOVE some bling), because I drive a 2008 Toyota Yaris that gets 400 miles to a tank, I still wanted to. I still have to pay about $40 a fill up, but I realize I am pretty lucky to get such good gas mileage, esp. with all this crazy gas price stuff going on...

Debbie said...

Skellar...say it isn't so....I will find out from Cara if these things are visible on all browsers. I would think they are.

Kimberly...you qualify because you commented!

You all don't need to list what brand of car you all drive, I just wanted to know if you are SUV, minivan or car people.

Mama Dawg said...

So weird how the blogsphere works. Here you go wanting me to mention my car in your comments and I did a whole post on my haunted car!

I drive a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am V-6 (cause that V-6 makes me look cooler than I really am).

Anonymous said...

Don't be insecure. I think you have a great blog, and your writing keeps me coming back! (Even if you don't write a post a day--slacker! And don't point it out to me that I haven't written a post today and I'm a hypocrite. We're talking about YOU here...)

I drive a 2003 Chevy Cavalier; a little, black, 2 door, wannabe sports car. While it's good on gas, it really sucks trying to toss a baby into the backseat and buckle her in. It was my first brand new car and I bought it when I was single and thin, never dreaming that in a few years I would be married, dragging along a baby and my big butt wouldn't fit nicely in the seat anymore. Life is weird like that.

Hello, my name is Gina. I drive a white minivan (mom mobile) that I bought off my sister 2 years ago for a thousand dollars.
When we got it the wiper switch already didn't work. You have to plug and unplug the stupid thing. Since I bought it, I have had to tape the headlight back on- yes you read that right, it has lost the bumper that stopps the sliding door- no not the bumper, the cool plastic thing that goes around the bumper, we have replaced the hydraulics for the tailgate, lost a handle on the back of the drivers seat- what are tose for anyway? They look like towel racks- had a major brake job, and bought 4 new tires.
Just the other day I said that when the oldest starts driving, I am going to give him the mom mobile and get a Mini Cooper.
I would feel more blessed if you decided to get me a new car, but I can be excited about a blogicon, too.

My name is Lizzy. I drive a 2001 Gold Honda Accord with seven different kinds of juice stains in the backseat. The light behind the clock doesn't work so when I'm driving at night I don't know what time it is, but fortunately my cell phone has 2 clocks on it so I use that.

I don't really want a mini-van either. I'd prefer perhaps a stretch mini-cooper.

Emily said...

I can't see your blogger bling either. Weird! Where is it!

BUT, I DO drive a minivan, and it's dark blue. I like it though!

Trish said...

We have a Honda Accord and a Nissan Xterra. Lately I've been driving the Honda cuz I do all the running.
Just last Sunday we drove to Seattle (150 miles one way) and back. Dave, his friend Kevin, and the boys were going to the Mariners game and I hitched along to meet my sister Kris in Seattle for a little girl time. (please don't tell Gina, it was a last minute thing and we didn't call any other sisters to invite them!)
it was during that ride that I wished I had a minivan beacause I was stuck between a four year old in a car seat and an 8 year old with a Nintendo DS for the whole ride there and back. NOT COZY!
However we went 300 miles with the AC on and only used 3/4 of a tank!

Love your Blogicon, I was just looking at her site yesterday. I would live to win one.

I am sooo happy that you posted today, that way I don't have to look at that nasy Late Night Snack post when I click over here......yuukkk.

oh yeah, Gina's van is pretty hidious, but it's paid for. i'm not saying I would drive it, just sayin it's paid for. ;-)

and very lastly in the longest blog comment ever....
I hope you are kidding about being insecure about this blogging thing, cuz girl you got it going on. You are who I want to be like if I ever grow up as a blogger.

okay I lied, one more thing. I totally heard you whispering that whole post in my head. how funny. I won't tell "the man" but I also know he reads your blog and comments!!

Love ya!

I drive a mini-van, maroon. Gina, I will make a good deal for you on it. Oh wait, I should probably ask dad first. I want a red Miata. I already drive it in my head, while I am tooling around in the van.
Tricia, you did not call your mother either. WHAT GIVES??????

Okay, I drive a suburban with a 42 gallon tank! It takes me a whoppin' 132.00 to fill er up! My hubbie on the other hand drives an insanely ugly Scion and it is a work vehicle so they pay the gas! yeah... It gets 27 miles to the gallon! So even if I dont have to pay for it I still feel I am being more responsible if we take it!Hmmm, wonder if his work feels the same way too! But we havent gotten a call yet!

Me! Me! Me! I totally want one. I need one. I have to have one.

I drive a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. It's grey, it has three rows of seats, and I love it! I just bought it two months ago, so it's a new-to-me card. My Land Rover died. But, I love my new Sequoia!!!

I love these. It took me a while to figure out how to get it onto my website, but I was determined.

Yours is so cute. Love it!

Hi blog bling flinger! I want me some of that!

I drive a 2007 Honda Pilot. Metallic Silver with just a smidge of someones mailbox paint scraped across the front driver side panel. Seats 8 (small butts) pretty comfortably. Pretty good on gas too, (relatively speaking, )Highway miles it gets about 25 mpg, city miles it gets about 20.

Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!

I drive a Dodge Grand Caravan. And I despise it. Not because it's a minivan...but because it has horrid quirks. Like if you don't drive it for a day...it won't start the next day. It must be started daily or it gets pissy.

I covet a Honda Odyssey. And blog bling.

And are you whack? Your blog is sooo much fun! You have nothing to feel insecure about. Nothing at all.

This Mom said...

I LOVE my Honda Odyssey 2007 grey. 4/5 of my kids can get in and out of the thing all by themselves and they cannot bang cars next to them with doors, so I figure I am saving a ton of money on door ding repairs. I have to find your bling I think I must be slow in trying to find it.

Michelle said...

Yay, I finally found it!

I had to actually resave the favorite, and then it appeared. It only took me ten minutes of thinking REALLY hard to figure it out. Way cool!

Personally, I drive an SUV. I'm right there with you on not being caught dead with a mini van. Even the word gives me the heebie jeebies!

First of all girlfriend... you are cracking me up! You know I was out shopping today and I pulled up to the drive thru ordered my grease to go and what to my wondering mind did appear??? That lady ... you know the one....ugh... I cant get it out of my head...I had to laugh at myself.. I cant wait for something gross just so I can blog you up and share it with ya, smiles.... Susie h~

I hate minivans too, but too bad for me, I drive one.

A 2004 silver Honda Odyssey.....good gas mileage, but when it dies, I'm hoping to be done with minivans FOREVER!

EEEEMommy said...

I've been blogging for over 2 years, but this is a first. Blog bling, huh? What will they think of next?!
I am not too proud to drive around in my very boring silver Chevy Venture mini-van. I secretly laugh at the likes of you (and my sister-in-law) who allow your prejudices against mini-vans to sap even more money from your wallet. I would much rather drive my boring van (which is paid off) and make frequent long distance road trips than be stuck at home because I can't afford to fill up my gas tank again. It does cost me about $80 to fill up my tank now, but I get farther for the same amount.
My husband, I must boast, drives an ordinary Saturn something and has been getting 41 mpg hyper-mileing(sp?). I keep telling him to blog about it, but he's been too swamped.
Enjoy your gas-guzzler! ;)

katylinvw said...

OOOH! how fun! i absolutely hate minivans, too, and lord-willing will NEVER be caught driving one. i actually have friends who are - puke - looking forward to getting a new minivan - i use the term friend loosely - obviously, lol!

i drive a 2003 toyota prius hybrid, and ride my bike to work most days (so hubby can take the car instead of his MASSIVE GAS-GUZZLING DIESEL TRUCK!)

Anonymous said...

I love that cute little stuff...

About the car...I have a Toyota Camry...so no gas guzzling here...although with gas round here at $4.20-$4.25 it still cost about $40-$50 to fill...I've been trying to stay home lately...

As for bling...I love hearts...I know..you didn't ask...LOL>

Hi Debbie! your curlyq is so great!! I drive a Madza MPV.... minivan. LOL

Megan B ♥ said...

Hi, I LOVE your blog! I hate mini-vans, swore we'd never do it, needed to upgrade when we found out we were pregnant with #3. Picked out a couple of nice sexy SUV's with lower gas mileage that could fit 3 carseats across. Alas, we just found out (to our shock and delight) that we're expecting baby #4 too, so we've run out of all other options! Mini-van, here we come! Blech!! They'll be worth the sacrifice to our sexy drivingness :)

Carolina Mama said...

Sign me up, these are too cute. What a great idea - sharing the bling. ;) I'm in - oh and thank you! How cool the kids can visit their grandma in just a half tank.

OOOH, I want one! I don't have anything special on my blog that I've designed or bought...well, unless you count the pictures of my kids....I guess I did help in their design, but you know what I mean....

OK, I drive a...are you ready....a...oh, this is embarassing....a 1997 Suburban!! But hey, it's paid for, and with all the petrified fruit snacks and dried hot chocolate (well, it WAS hot....), it's definitely MINE! Course, I can't afford to fill it up, so I put in $20 here and there.

My daughter drives a much better, 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. So, when she's not looking, I take that one (which is easier now, since her BF takes her everywhere, even to work, since they work at the same WallyWorld....)

Lula! said...

Several things...we are still BFFs even though I drive a MomVan and love it. (I also sometimes drive a Lexus--does that make me remotely cool?)

Second, you are so loving, so fabulous, so generous, my Fairy Blogmother. Yay for this contest--someone's gonna be blessed.

Finally, I respectfully take myself out of the running on this one. You know why. This Georgia Peach has done been blinged out, baby! Woooooooooooooooo! Cara ROCKS, doesn't she?

Karin @ 6ByHisDesign said...

Sorry, but I drive the dreaded minivan. Yeah, I always said I wouldn't, either, but we just have so many kids! My husband won it (seriously) at the St. Louis Auto Show. We attend EVERY year now.

WAIT - does telling you we've won something make it less likely that I might win some bling?!

I just might have to hit *delete*

Unknown said...

OK, now I've got to go and try and figure this one out, because no matter how hard I peer, I just can't see the blogicon.

Now, to the wheels thing. I ride a bicycle. The driving public and I are much safer that way. Especially when you take into consideration, my habit of forgetting what side of the road I should be on, when I'm behind the wheel of a car.

At least with a bike, I can ride on the footpath, if need be :-)

My last car was a Toyota Corolla.

Unknown said...

Weird, I can now see your bling. I had to delete you from my favourites and then add you again. Now it's showing up...

I think I get intimidated by the sheer number of other posts on your blog and so I never comment. But I lurk! So know I love you. I don't think I need the blogicon, because really in the graphics area my blog is a complete loss. A cute blogicon would only point out how sad the rest of it looked. But as you may know if you pay attention to vehicles, I have a Toyota 4Runner. So chalk one more up for the SUVs. Last week I ran it almost dry (like when you are praying to make it to the gas station before the engine stalls) and it cost me $81 to fill up. Sigh. I'll try to get better about commenting...although I think I have a lurking problem and may have to join a lurking anonymous 12 step program to really change my ways...do they have that?

Elena said...

Good heavens lady, you're like the comment queen lately! You're curly is very cute and fitting. I have no idea what I'd do if I got bloggy bling. And as for the vehicle, SUV, gas guzzling, pocket emptying SUV. And I love it!

Hi my name is holly, and I drive a Toytoa Camry 02, it was great w/ one kid, okay with a new infant, BUT NOW... i'd take a mini-van no problem. They already can't keep their hands to themselves. Drives me crazy to repeat myself, aren't my words gold?
I'd pay the extra $ in the tank to keep the sanity, b/c you can't but that back?
And, I need bling, so thanks !

Unknown said...

Like the new bling! I drive an all wheel drive Subaru, when I'm not walking or riding my bike. It gets decent mileage - about 25 mpg.

Kimba said...

Hi! I drive a light blue minivan. I always swore on my ever-lovin' life that I wouldn't be caught dead in on. But practicality kicked in and I bit the bullet. But just for a few years.

And, clearly, I'm an idiot. Because I can't see your bling and have no idea what you're talking about. ;-)

OK! Now I see it! I had to delete you from my faves and add you back in.

Thanks for stopping by. I just read the list of your 'Favs' on the right sidebar.

Oh dear, i was just reading through the comments and mine sounds like I'm a total twerp or at least in the early stages of Alzhiemer's or something!!!

Just to make it clear, to those who know nothing about me. I'm originally from NZ and we drive on the opposite side of the road there!

Whoops! I just left a comment on the earwax eater post that was suppose to go with this one. You figure it out :)!

I do love bling! And I really dig your blog too...look forward to reading it daily! I drive an older Honda Civic which still gets great gas mileage, which is awesome since I've got a pretty good commute. Hubby drives a Chevy 1500 truck, and he rides his bicycle often to help offset the crazy gas costs! I really want to get a Toyota Sequoia as I pretty much completely refuse to drive a minivan and realize that my next car will need to be kid friendly (even though no bambinos yet). Wow...that was long...

Unknown said...

Silly nilly, of COURSE you're the Debbie I was talking about... I'd love to sit next to you in class... You can walk the boarder between good girl and... detention :)

Those are called favicons. And I checked your view source... it's not set up in a way that will work across platforms. Safari users can't see it, and it looks like IE 7 and 8 might not see it in the browser. Viewable in Firefox though.

Favicons are a cool way to set yourself apart in the blogroll with all those big, ugly, orange Bs.

I have a coffee cup one for my personal blog, and G for Graphically Designing in my graphics blog. :)

PS- It was $91 to fill up my tank last time. Gag.

oh, this is fun. I drive a hunka hunka toyota highlander. we had considered getting the hybrid but hubby laughed the thought out of my head - so now i drive my gas cuzzler and the $68 per tank gas costs wink at me every time I pull up to the gas station.

Well....yes... we drive THEE blue minivan and we FILL it up with people and gas. 7 of us...two of them big teenage boys...no leg room, but I am thrilled that it runs and the only other next step would be an SUV and that just isn't an option these days for the big, bad, budget.
So, I need some fun bling since I am new to this bloggy world.
