Newsflash. There are 8 of Me!

If you've been hanging around me for awhile, you know I've lamented that my first name, Debbie, is on it's way to The Name Cemetery. Yup it's right up there with Gladys, Ethel, Mildred, Hortense and YourGrandmother's Name. Oh don't laugh. You know it is. How many people do you know that have named their kids, Debbie, Deborah, Deb anymore? Huh? Zero. Told ya.

For many years, I thought I was the only one to have a birthday on October 17. Alas, I now know, on last count, about 20 people who share my birthday, including Evel Kneival, (well I don't know him personally may he rest in peace. He is dead right?) and two others, that I went to college with, born the exact day and year. Boo Hoo. I thought I was different. I'm not. So I rested in knowing that my first name and maiden last name are probably so unique that I was probably the only one. I now know that to be true. (How? I'll tell ya in a minute.) But when I got married, I discovered that, gasp, there is another one of me in on my husband's side of the family. As if that wasn't bad enough, I have now discovered there are EIGHT of me in the United States. EIGHT! Eight people with my same name! How do I know this? Because one of my friends had to email me this blankety blank site for me to obsess over:

How Many of Me?

So here's the lowdown;

There is only 1 Little Red Riding Hood. That would be her, I guess. I'm so smart.
There are 3 Hunka Hunka's.
And get this, there are 48 of my husbands! Only one in my heart though...yeah yeah yeah...

Fewer than 336 people in the US have the same last name as my maiden one. And we are all probably related because it is a variation of a more popular Mediterranean name that my ancestors changed by one letter for some reason that was important coming off the boat from Italy. Don't ask. I can't remember why. It's probably something I should know dontcha think? My married name is like "Smith" somewhere in Holland, or Sweden, or Norway or someplace like that, but it is the 10,685th most popular (can you really be considered popular that far down the list?) in the US.

So yeah, I am giving YOU something new to obsess over. Because once you clickety click over there and find how many of you there are, you can proudly display this:

HowManyOfMe.com

There are
8
people with my name in the U.S.A.

How many have your name?

So out with it, HOW MANY OF YOU are there?

This is actually something that I've had to struggle with since getting married. Currently, with my married name, there are 1,503 of me. Before I got married, there were only 24 of me. It's been an issue for me. I'm not a fan.

Laura Marchant said...

How fun! I just did this. Before I got married I was the only one with my name. Now there are 52 of me :-)

There are 1515 of me with my legal name (including a lady in my company whose e-mail I got yesterday)

There were 100 of me with my legal maiden name.

There are 178 of me using my nickname and 12 of be using my nickname and my maiden name.

There are 67 of who I want to be legally in 15 months. There are 8 of who I want to be, nickname wise.

There is ONE Essie!!! She's it!!!! And there are 2 using Gerts legal name. Using her nickname there are 183.

(I'm having way too much fun)

There are only 2 of me!!! :) how fun is this :)

I am soooo unique (and humble). Both my married and maiden name make me the only one with my name in the US.
My name is a dying breed, too. You don't hear many Melissa's anymore. My sister just brought back an older name with my neice, Helen. It was hard for me to get used to it, but now I love it.

EEEEMommy said...

There is only ONE of me (and that's probably a good thing). My kids are also all one and only originals! There are 6 of my husband. Does that make me a polygamist?
We're probably related to all the 1251 people with our last name too. It's 22,507th most popular. My maiden name was much more common.

Michelle said...

There are 40 of me.
There are only 2 of me with my maiden name.
There are 203 of my husband. (Wow, I can only imagine how wonderful my yard/house/garage would look with that many of him around!)
There are 20 of my oldest son.
There is only 1 of my middle son.
There are 2 of my youngest son.

Oh, and thanks for the addiction, now I have to check my mom and dad, my in-laws, my babsitter, the local gas station attendant...

I did this a while ago and there are so many of me... ridiculous. And lots of Jasper too, strange, didn't realize Jasper Anderson was such a common name! ha ha

2 of me with married name (only 336 with the same last name, 1.4 MILLION!! with my first name, but we've already been there...).

6 of me with my maiden name
1 of my husband, but I KNEW that! yeessh!

1 of each of the 4 kiddos.

I think that at some point it's just based on statistics and/or estimates that the popularity of my first name is what caused my number of people to go up to 2.

A & J had 671,138 and 477, 424 people with their first names. So that's just my thoughts, fun game thought Debbie!

This is scary but there is only one me. Yikes!!!
Great fun though!!

How fun!

There are 403 of me
There are 460 of my husband (using his middle name, which is what he goes by... using his legal 1st name there are only 178 of him)
There are 84 of my oldest daughter
There are 15 of my youngest daughter

And, yes... I am also doing this with the names of my mom, dad, MIL, sister, etc!

Ronnica said...

There is only 1 of me! As unique as my first name is, so is my last name. And my middle name, even though that's not figured.

Skeller said...

412 of me. Fun site :-)

Mrs. Jones said...

Alright, there are 3192 of me with my married name (go figure ... Jones), and only 1 of me with my maiden name. When I grew up, NO ONE had my last name and I thought maybe there was a cool reason (like yours). Then I started researching our family tree, and apparently some geezer on a farm in TN a few generations back got sick of getting his brother's mail, so he changed the spelling of his name, from Sweeney to Swinea. Thanks a lot!! All I can say about growing up with that last name is, I hated the first day of school, and I love never having to pronounce Jones (unfortunately, some people actually ask me to spell it).

There are 36 of me! I knew there were at least 3 of me, but I had no idea there were that many!

Melissa Lester said...

I still think you're one-of-a-kind, Debbie! I discovered that I have become more common since I married. There were 25 of me before, and 140 after. I'm just wondering why my house is not cleaner with so many more of me now? I guess my kids still outnumber me!

Kori said...

Oh yeah whoo hoo. I went over there to that there site. And like I've always known I am the ONE and ONLY! Oh yeah go me.

This is so fun! (especially while I'm supposed to be working!)
1 of me w/ my married name, which is oh-so-German (and took me 3 years post-wedding day to commit to changing).
6 of me w/ my maiden name, Byerly.
Wild stuff - thanks for sharing!

Gretchen said...

cool site. There are 27 of me with my married name and only 1 of me with my maiden name. WOO HOO I'm fairly unique. Well, i used to be anyway.

Gina said...

Whew! What a relief. I'm the only me. And I was the only me before i married, too.

I thought I was more unique. But there are 256 of me. With my maiden name, there is 11 of me.

8 of my oldest daughter
3 of my youngest.

Probably because we spell their common names strangely.

Now there is almost 12,000 of my husband...

KatBouska said...

I'm a little more unique than you. There is one other person in the US with my first name and my maiden name...but I am the ONLY person in the United States of America with my first name and my husband's last name.

I feel so special...and yet...so alone.

Anonymous said...

Well,Debbie, there are 8 of me as well in the US!

But, there is only 1 Z! I always knew he was unique!

Lula! said...

Just so you know...

There is only ONE Debbie for me!

And you know there's only one Lula. But of course!

Nichole said...

There are only 2 of me :o) Before I was married (this past April) there were 583 of me.

Anonymous said...

There's 838 of me. And one lives in the general area here - she also shares my birthday (month, day AND year!!). Wonder what the odds of THAT is?! It's an absolute nightmare when I get her medical bills via collection agencies! But I digress .... fun site!

Britt said...

Before I got married there were 36 me's

Now there are only 11

If my husband ever decides for sure he wants to take his dad's name, we will all become one and only's. His dad has one of those one of a kind Italian names too :o)

Michelle said...

Yeah.... I saw that one before. There are now only 3,357 of me. There used to be a whole lot more. Like when I lived in Chicago and there was someone with my name living four blocks south of me on the same street (I know this from a very confused wrong number call one day). *sigh*

Hi Deb,
I'm the one and only.. same with my maiden name... school pictures are really cute!

Karin @ 6ByHisDesign said...

24 maiden me
113 married me.

Cool stuff, Debbie!

Karin @ 6ByHisDesign said...

oh my - too funny; there are 15,524 with my husband's name. That might explain why, when he used to answer phones, people would ask him what his 'real name' was; as if he'd made up a more common name so customers wouldn't know who he really was.

I'm off to find out about my kids. I already know that there are 15,524 with the same name as my son (go figure - we were soooo original).

Kendra said...

I did this awhile back and there was only 1 of me (both married and maiden names)...as of just now, there is still only 1 of me, using both names.

There is only 1 of my oldest daughter.

There may be 1 or fewer of my youngest daughter (guess she's too young for her name to be showing up on much!).

There are 53 of my husband.

Fun stuff!

I am OLD NEWS--344 of me.

Jenni said...

There was 1 of me with my maiden name and 3 with my married name. Does this mean I am getting less unique? Quite frankly I am surpired considering neither my first or last name is that unique. I guess it's the combination that makes it unique, sort of like my personality;)

Unknown said...

There's over a million of me with my christian name. Add my surname and I shrink down to only one or less of me.

I'm unique!!! :-)

And yes, I think it was a small blog-cation...

Jennifer P. said...

I'm back, I'm baaaack :)!

It CLAIMS there are only 1,521 in the US---but I'm not buying it. I know that there are at least FOUR people with my name that see my obgyn, I took a poetry class with another of "me", and another "me" manages the Baskin-Robbins in town. , so I'm guessing it's closer to the figure of people with my first name: 1,421,613.

That was fun :).

Love this!! When I got married, there was already a sis in law with my same name (1st & last) so she's the first and I'm the second.

I'm gonna go check out the iink right now!!

Kathi Roach said...

Okay, I just went...there are only 2 of me!!!! I guess that's because I spell my name with an i at the end. When I changed it to a y there were 66 of me!! Crazy!

I'm one of a kind. So is my husband. So are each of my children. That's what you get when you name your kids Mongolian names.

Deborah said...

Well, we share the same first name, so you know how common that is, but combined with a very uncommon last name, it says there are 1 or fewer of me in the US...since I'm from Canada, I'm guessing there is NO ONE in the US with my name.
About Debbie being unused these days....I think it must be time for it to make a come back! When I was in school, it was one of the most common names....right up there with Cathy and Brenda! Today, a little Debbie would probably be the one and only in her class!

StacyRenee said...

LOL I took the challenge and posted it on my blog. WOW I never new how many of ME there were.

Anonymous said...

It seems like I've seen this before. I'm sure I read your name cemetery post because I thought, "Vicki, that's got to be the deadest name out there..."

I did the how many thing and there's only on person with my first and last name. How lucky for me, I guess. :)

Thanks for submitting your post and for all the help you've given BPOTW!!!

There is only one of me.

Interesting enough there are only 641 people with my last name(maiden). Hum, since grandma had ten kids maybe they are all related.

Unknown said...

That was fun!
491,172 share my first name...WOW!
2,776 share my last name. 1,800 with my maiden name.
4 people with both the same. 3 with my maiden.

Interesting.

There are 264 of me! There are 3 of me in my town alone. I use to get calls for my burial plot at the local cemetery....I didn't purchase one. They insisted I did...when I asked how old I was and they replied 75, I started laughing. Um, you got the wrong Betty. haha

134 of me married, and 45 with my maiden name.

Ciao, nice to meet you! What a coold web-home you have! :) Greetings from Scotland from an Italian girl.

Unknown said...

I've done this before, and there are six people in the US that have my name. It was a lot more before I got married. Hey, you and my hubby share a birthday. He'll be 39 this year. Two days later I'll be 40 so yes, I robbed the cradle!

Heather said...

With having married THE most common name in all the US almost 14 years ago, I knew that would up my chances for having a common whole name. (My first name was quite popular among my peers as a kid, too.)

Turns out there are 5,172 women with my same name (including me, I suppose). Not too surprising. What impressed me more was that there is exactly ONE person that shares my sister's name, now that she's married. The benefit of having a less common first name and a rather uncommon last name! :)

(Oh, and there are over 15k men with my hubby's name, and over 2K with my kiddo's name. But my FIL? John Smith? You've gotta be kidding me - it's given as an example on the webpage, even! LOL)

That was a fun link and a nice way to procrastinate on the housework just a little bit more.... Cheers!

That is so funny I just went to another site like that just yesterday. I was just thinking about blogging about it, lol. The site I went to was http://www.isthisyour.name/

According to the site I went to said there are 459 that have my name. The site I went to from side there is only 277. Isn't that funny

Gina said...

Hey, Debbie,
Since there are 8 of you, do you think one of you could publish something new? Just askin'. 'Cuz I can't live without my Debbie fix.

Sherri said...

Well, there are 10 of me with my exact spelling (first & last name). The odd/interesting thing is that there must be at least one person in my town with my name, because my prescriptions get mixed up with someone else w the same name. If I put in variations of spelling, I get more, but hey there are three of my name (variation on first & same last) just within my own family. Go figure

thotlady said...

Well, if I use my maiden or married name...there is only one of me in the U.S.

Does that mean I am unique. Nahhh.

Darcy @ m3b said...

There are "1 or fewer".

Um, fewer? how can there be fewer than one?

;)

Nina said...

I did this before and I didn't exist. I have a very unique first name (I blog under a nick name) and my last name is also rare so this site didn't even recognize me. It was sad....

Like Tigger, I am the only one! (Although I am finding it a little hard to believe?) AND I htought I'd let you know that I had a Debbie in my class (elementary school) three years ago. AND so long as there are still nutty bars in this world, I am sure your name will ALWAYS be ♥ ed!

With 8 of you out there...one of you should atleast have some time to come on over and post a little something new...we miss all 8 of you. LOL!
Just joking...totally know how this time of year can get...I think my last post was even earlier than yours. That is why my SITS day scares me too, because bouncing around saying hi to all the lovely people's on blogger gives a person no time for their own blog! Arg!
I'll go see if you're around at BATW.

Ok, I came back to read more of Debbie goodness, and I'm still seeing the name cemetery post. You are truly busy with BATW!
