Guilt Free Blogging

Pssst....Listen, I have discovered the secret to guilt free blogging.

Shhh. Keep it down ladies.

I have to whisper.

Why? Because I am in the lobby of my kids' school

.... blogging

...and volunteering.

Oh yes I am.

Volunteering while blogging equals guilt free blogging.

How'd I work that out you ask?

Well, many of you know I live in Virginia, and after the VA Tech shootings, our county decided they would "protect" (hahahahahha teeee heeheehee, yeah right) the kids from such violence by installing a security type doorbell/camera outside the elementary schools. When you visit the school for any reason, you press the button and then present identification. Someone then buzzes you in. It's been a pain in the tooty tot for the school office staff because they contantly get interrupted to manage this. So I volunteered to come in on Friday afternoons for three hours to give them a reprieve. Yeah, so basically, if someone has an axe to grind with the school, I am the first one the're gonna take out. The staff and principal have promised me many gifts...diamond studded bookmarks, books to read with the diamond studded bookmarks, flowers, chocolate...etc. What they don't know is that they are doing me a favor by allowing me to read or "work" guilt free. Shh. Don't tell them, I may need to call in a favor sometime.

So here I am, buzzing people in, pinky waving the kids I know as they walk by...oh wait there's Hunka Hunka wearing a hard hat and a vest. "Hi Mom, I'm the messenger today. I'm taking the "tendence" folder to the office." "That's great buddy. See you later."

Seriously here comes my daughter for lunch. Lemme just stop and pinky wave. Oh wow, I think she gave me a wave or was she swatting me away?

Yeeaaah, "This is the Life." I've got my Perrier, my laptop, and three hours of guilt free blogging. The only thing I'm worried about is my laptop battery staying juiced enough for me to finish. If it doesn' t, this post will end in mid

You know what? That sounds just like something I want to do. I need to get involved at the elementary school where my daughter goes. I think I'll call down and see if they need any office help. Enjoy your blogging time.

Ha! Enjoy your guilt-free blogging while buzzing people in. Just make sure you're not so distracted that you accidentally let in that person with the axe to grind!

Ummm... Awesome!
I will continue to be guilty of blogging while at work, getting paid to feed the habit.
Enjoy the time, and bask in the guiltless pleasure :)

My very good friend has a PAID job to sit at the front door and have people sign into the school. She says the pay sucks...but she gets FULL benefits. Which is cool because her husband is self employed.

So...I am guessing that Friday will be a regular day for you, now. So...are you just composing your post - or can you surf, too?

you are a RIOT! Rebekah was trying to explain where she saw you, "not in the library this time, mom. down that hallway, by the door, blah blah blah". Now i get it.

LOL.. *U* R 2 Funny!! I know what you mean about being on the frontline.. you're lucky you have the buzzer on the door, I work for a non profit organization as a receptionist and greet the visitors as well, and when we can't help certain people cuz they don't qualify they get upset and talk about coming up to our office..
Hey I want a buzzer, I demand a buzzer..I'm very fast with the minimizer when someone passes by my desk when I'm sneaking a peek at blogs or email lol.

And this is just one of the many reasons why I totally love, adore, admire, and look up to you.

You. Are. A. Genius.

Michelle said...

Oh that was pure brilliance on your part. I'm in awe. We have the same buzzer system (with cameras and all), but the buzzer is at the admin's desk, and she seems ok with it. Maybe I should talk to her about it though. Hmmm.

I can totally hear the giddiness in your voice. . .hmmm guilt free. I could use a little of that.

Woah, this is a great idea! I homeschool, but I'm going down to the nearest school on Monday and offering up my services ;)

We have that new fancy security device at our schools now, too - going on year 2. Or maybe 3...?

I just need to get the wi-fi password so I can do that, too. The library is nearby, but I don't think it's close enough to the school. I can barely get a bar on my cell phone, for goodness sake.

So, hey - join Facebook and we can play games guilt-free too!

Ooooohhh, I need to suggest that to the principal at school !!!

Though, at the moment, I do takeover the teacher's computer at recess and lunchtime and get a little blogging done.

They all reckon it's a small price to pay to keep me happy and in their classroom :-)

Debbie, it was so nice of you to stop by my blog! I double-checked with a senior at Great Big Urban High. She tells me that being a "G" means being "gangsta." As in, being very cool. In our day, I think we used "bitchen," perhaps??

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. And I'm always psyched to have a new reader come by!

There really should be no guilt in blogging, it is really CHEAP therapy!!! We could be doing worse things......

P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

I want a volunteer position like that.

even though that is a little scary to me to think that it has now become necessary to have that level of security in our elementary schools.

Brilliant!

EEEEMommy said...

I agree, brilliant! Now I just have to figure out how to implement this into my homeschool.....hmm...

What a wonderful steward of your time! You've got the most creative ways of carving out blogging time. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Wait 'till you turn 45...the sweats are comin'...

Genius. I think all of us are a little bit jealous.

I'm not sure if I got to leave a comment the other day...my computer was being all fussy...it still won't let me open your email address on your profile page...ugghh!! Soooo...I hope you get this comment...I can host BATW on Wednesday for you!!! I'll try to leave more comments "around" so hopefully we'll get together on at least one! :)

Sissy said...

We have a similar system at my school and I bet the ladies would love it if someone volunteered to do that. And, as a bonus, you can blog with a clear conscience.

Melissa Lester said...

Hi HH and LRR! I hope you're having a good day at school and won't be too embarrassed by having all your mom's friends congregating in your lobby. I know we tend to giggle a lot, and sometimes really loudly, and trying to keep it down might make it even more difficult to stop laughing. But really, I know you secretly enjoy seeing your mom's face light up as she laughs with her girlfriends. And I hope that you will have good friends to share your days with when you're all grown up, too. So have a great day, and we'll go ahead and step outside for now. We know you need to get some work done, and the principal just gave us another look.

Emily said...

LOL made me laugh ending in mid ... love it.
Glad you found some more bloggy time! :)

I just wanted to say your blog has been the best blog find I have ever found. I have been laughing and smiling all morning! Thanks

Heather said...

We have one of those doorbell thingies too. I never thought to volunteer to give them a break. It sounds like my kind of volunteering!!

Anonymous said...

Sounds like my kind of work!! (Except now I am writing this during my working time.... - but shh.. it can be our little secret!)

Great blog!

Jen said...

Sweet. My blogging happens when ever the kids are sleeping. It can take me up to an hour to write one out. There are many interuptions and I've got to stop and continue.
I'm glad you enjoyed your tour of Canada. Thanks for the feature. It was alot of fun! I'm still getting back to people. I'm so slow at it because there are so many great blogs. I've just got to read them all. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your week!

Tracey said...

Did I read that correctly...Perrier? Have I been away from reading blogs so long you gave up your precious Diet Coke with Lemon?! If so, I am very proud of you for getting off the poison. And if not, I am still very proud of you for finding a way to guilt free blog. I have not. Which is why I haven't posted anything decent for several months.
