My Secret

Kat at Sunshine and Lemonade has revealed a big secret about herself today. She has revealed her political leanings. Gasp! She thought that we wouldn't be friends anymore once I read it. Au contraire. I heart Kat. My political leanings aren't a big secret if you've hung out with me long enough. But I am not here to discuss that. I am here to discuss this :

and what I'm going to do with it this week. Because my secret, is that I decorate. And I decorate for other people. Gasp again. I am not a professional, and I don't have any experience other than helping friends and family ...and maybe, perhaps I have a little bit of vision of how things should/could look. I've even helped a couple of people I don't know who have been referred by other friends. Crazy. Scary. I won't let people pay me because I don't have any edumakation in it. I just enjoy the creativity and helping them. Although...I do have a Kirkland's gift card sitting staring me in the face right now from a friend who felt compelled to "compensate" me after I helped rearrange furniture in her basement. I have had a couple of friends and my Mom ask why I don't talk about decorating on my blog. Well, because that isn't what I came here to talk about, and most importantly, I just suck at taking pictures. It's the truth. And without good pictures, it just never looks as good as it does in real life.

So why talk about it now? Because I need some motivation to get some things done. I still haven't re-done my powder room that I've had the paint and accessories for, for months, and I still haven't bought the carpet for my upstairs that I complained about not doing months ago, too. And I still haven't painted the kitchen table or the living room coffee table....ahhh the list goes on. So who do I go to for accountability? My laptop friends of course! Now that I am refreshed from my "blog- cation," I am going to attempt to work on these projects as mojo for my blog posts. It's the old killing two birds with one stone...blah blah blah...However, I might need a better camera. Hmmm...my birthday is coming up....or maybe I should just learn how to use the one I have. Oh I can see it now, The Man is squirming in his office reading this and shaking his head mumbling "Does it ever end?" And my answer is NOPE. Never.

So this week I am off to help my friend Jennnifer (who doesn't have a blog or I 'd link her) pick paint for her kitchen walls and island and cabinets. And no, Jennifer, you don't need to give me a gift card, or money or anything. A Diet Coke with a fresh lemon wedge will do just fine.

Do you have any interesting secrets you'd like to share?

I still long to be a famous singer. So far, I only perform for my son who is one, when he is in the bathroom with me, while I pee.

Too bad we're not neighbors. I'd be happy to take your project photos and be inspired by all your decorating goodness! :-)

Sometimes .. when I'm walking through my house .. I like to pretend I'm riding a horse. No, scratch that .. I pretend I'm riding a pony.

I'm totally not making that up.

I am totally stoked to see pictures of your creations and projects. I'm sure you'll give me tons of ideas to add to my list of things to do when we buy a house :o)

Britt said...

oh, I guess I should have clarified .. I don't continue walking as I 'ride my pony' .. I skip and gallop and hold pretend reigns.

Figured as long I'm outing my secret I might as well go all the way ;o)

I KNEW IT! I knew there was more to your creative genius than you let on! : )

I can't think if any secrets at the moment, though...I'll have to give that some thought!

I decorate too...and help other people.

Big Lots, Homegoods, Marshalls.

These are all my favorite decor spots.

I thought Kat's secret that she's not like her friends was interesting. While I try to surround myself with positive people who share the same values, I am open to all perspectives that people have to offer because it helps you grow, not to mention that you can't always control or pick and choose who you are around, such as family. I am not easily offended and avoid complaining because I like being happy instead of miserable. As for secrets, I don't have any. I speak my mind in hopes that others will learn from my mistakes and vice versa. I am extremely passionate about living an honest, altruistic life.

I'm a li ... li ... liberal, too. Living in Bush Administration suburbia (as you know). I used to be the other extreme. I'm morphing as I get older.

Oooooh, I want a new camera, too. I'm saving up for a really great one.

Let's have coffee.

Will you come to Idaho and help me???? I so need a decorator friend/neighbor. I keep trying to Jennifer P. over here, but so far we've had no luck with that.

Oooo...thanks for the shout out!! I had so much fun writing about my secret. But, I swear I feel like a hypocrite sometimes. I am just not confrontational. And I seem to fit in better with people of opposing political views. Why, I have no idea.

And decorating - as long as it's not crafty, I like it. And I LOVE color. I have a really good eye for what will go together. And some combos that you never thought would look good - but do - like in my bedroom, we have a dark taupey colored walls, dark brown - almost black furniture - a Tuscany blue quilt - and red/burgundy accents. Who would have guessed that the colors mesh, but they really do.

And I am a BIG fan of the red front door...

my secret?
If i told you it wouldn't be my secret anymore.

nyah, nyah , nyah nyah nyah!

Yeh, Debbie! I'm glad you have this secret and you use it to help others.

I don't really have any secrets except for a newly discovered 40 year old one: I want to be an athlete! I'm working on it. Running my first 5k in 20 years in October!

40 is great, I must say!

Ugh, give that door a wreath or something. It's looks naked. And ashamed of itself.

I also like to decorate. I can make wreaths, but the stuff keeps falling off. I think my $1 bargain bin glue gun SUCKS.

I wear my heart on my sleeve, I can't think of any secrets.
I wish you lived here and could help me with my decorating dilemas!

I don't know if this is a secret, but I know sign language and from time-to-time I just start signing words. But mostly, I like to sign to songs on the radio or my ipod.

I'm glad you are sticking around.

I knew your secret! I knew your secret!

You know we're all going to demand pictures of your latest projects if you expect us to hold you accountable. :-)

My secret? I'm actually a bald man living in Idaho. And I think yeeeeer kinda cute.

;-)

Kimba said...

Oh wait! Wait! I have another secret. (I'm such an exhibitionist - but that's not the secret)

I watch Judge Judy. I can't help it. That old gal is sassy!

Hi Debbie. If people want to pay you for your work, you should let them. Obviously you have a talent for it. A lot of decorators started by doing it instead of going to school for it.
Interesting secrets, I don't think I have any. If I think of any, I will come back to share.

No big secrets here other than the fact that I play piano and am self-taught on the guitar. And I love to sing and have written a handful of songs, two of which have been recorded. No biggie.

I'm only down to the really nasty, really dirty, really secret secrets that I will forever let remain secret :)...

----big breath-----

that felt good :)!

Can't wait to see what you do with that door!

This is the Jennifer who is waiting patiently (okaaay not really) for her floors to be done so that Debbie can actually come over and help with the next steps.

I'm thinking about blogging and of course if I do I will have to go back and blog about this so that I can show the help that Debbie gives me.

Debbie, I will have your D.coke w/lemon here and waiting for you when you come. Will call you Wed, to check in...

I have two secrets-first I used to want to be an astronaut until the Challenger shuttle exploded on my birthday.

My second one is similiar to another post. I want to sing professionally. I went to college to be a singer, but dropped out to get married. Well, now 11 years later, I am a divorced mom with 3 boys, and no education. I have a choir at my church, and I sing in the community, but I want to be professional, like opera, or something like that. I have auditioned for Nashville Star twice, but I don't have a country twang...and I'm too old for American idol.
So those are my two secrets.

I would share my secrets, but I am not good with secrets. . .I am an open book. If you are unsure, just check out my blog. Not only do I blog about all and sundry--random topics. I have other blogs for my other obsessions.

I love decorating too, though. So I can't wait to see what you've got. I would also love to take the pictures for you. In case you haven't noticed, I like to take A LOT of pictures. I am about to embark on a kitchen remodel and I am sure it will be well documented!

Can't wait to see what you do with the door.
I wish I could think of a special something I do...I'm too boring for that.
Though I do like to wear low cut shirts. *blush*

OOOO! You could paint my kitchen, and I'd give you coke and lemon for a week!! :)

Have fun!

Every room in my house contains an unfinished project. It's really no secret, because when I give people the tour of our new house, I'm totally not ashamed to start the tour like this: "Here's the ___room. Oh, I'm not done with it, I still have 6,498 things to do. Yeah, don't touch that switch over there. Fixing that live wire is number one on this room's list..."

Unknown said...

Oh take the silly pictures no matter what camera you have!!!

My secret? I think I pretty much confessed everything a couple weeks ago on BATW... but... in honor of this I will tell you that I think you should keep 12/26/09 clear on your calendar.

Unknown said...

You and I are the exact same with the decorating thing! I am the same way...I've done a few jobs for strangers and lots of jobs for friends and family! I want to know what you're going to do with the door?

Pssssst...Debbie...over here. I gotta keep it down, so no one will hear me...

OK. I have an interior designer. That's my secret. The end.
**********************************

Hey Debbie! Wow, I have no decorating sense--I'm helpless, actually. But I can't wait to see what you create because you are fabulous and talented and brilliant and I love you. Wanna come help me? I'll give you cases of Diet Coke and a whole bag of lemons!

Kimba said...

Wanna hear another secret?

I just ate nearly 1/2 a tub of Betty Crocker frosting with honey wheat pretzel sticks.

Wouldn't it be funny if I were preggo? NOT!

Lauren W said...

I can totally see you doing that.
I think the whole ironing thing gave it away... or maybe that's just me.
Ummm... secrets? I'm a natural blonde. That's not very exciting :/ but that's all I got.
Yes, I did make that bag, yes, I am going to post a tutorial, yes, you will totally be able to do it because the key is in the ironing (seriously).

Brian and Staci said...

I can totally see you decorating for other people....I don't even know you, yet, I think of you as always doing for others before yourself :) I don't think I have any nasty little secrets. How boring is that?!

Jen - Balancing Beauty and Bedlam said...

Since I am a new blogger, if I share all my secrets here, then where will my great blog fodder come from? I, too, am an open book so mostly anything about me will come out sooner or later. But, hmmm....now I am tempted since I won't ever write a post about this one...does being the last of the on their honeymoon count?

Okay...I'm having trouble leaving comments for Brit and Katy Lin from yesterdays spotlights....ughhh!! I FINALLY was able to comment on Darla's though. I'm not sure why my computer is being "choosy" with comments, but apparently, it likes your personal blog because I can't comment under your post over at BATW...another uhhh! Anyway, since I can't comment over there, I'll comment here, K? I like having about 3 blogs to review for the day, it's just right for me :) Unless, of course, I cannot comment :( If you talk to Brit or Katyl Lin, tell them Ms. Oklahoma is not snubbing them... I would never do that...I'm just having a little trouble. Sorry for the long post!

The door... it looks wrong cause the whole thing should be black not just the door. Around the windows would look wonderful and give it a completed look and a simple fix. Just my suggestion....

Wow you are one busy lady. I love to paint too bad I am so far away cause I love a project and my house is all painted. I am so relieved and sad all at the same time when that happens.
Good luck though. Anything you do will look awesome.

OK, Didn't we all know Kat was a lefty? I think you let the Kat out of the Bag a while back when you introduced her as your guest writer. (you mentioned something to the effect of differing political views...I have the memory of an elephant. Seriously.)

& I LOVE that you can decorate! Can you come over here and help me rearrange my P.O.O.P.I.E. decorations? Yeah, I went out and bought MORE of them today. I just can't help it.

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

I had to come back and see if this is where all my commenters came from yesterday. And I think it is. And Karin - your memory is a smidge fuzzy. She didn't say we had different leanings - except that she was making fun of my affinity for Johnny Depp.

If you were close I'd take pictures in exchange for your help! I love to decorate and craft - but I have no unique vision, I have to rely on copying. SO I guess that is my secret, I'm a copy cat!

Missy said...

I'm still basking in all the commenty goodness that you left for me, Debbie! You're such a sweetheart.
What a fun secret. You MUST show pics of the finished product, you multi-talented wonder woman!
Here's my secret:
The only prints that we have in our house are WAR prints that my husband had before we were married. Yep. Nicely framed, beautiful colors, but the subject matter leaves a bit to be desired. Except the one with nekkid Indians fighting. That one has been relegated to the upstairs computer room, so I can look at nekkid guys while I type. And so it doesn't scare small children that visit. (:
I'll have to blog about that...
